STOP ROBBING PETER TO PAY PAUL
Warri Development Vanguard has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency and importance start the payments of the 13 percent oil derivation base on quantum of oil production directly to ethnic Nationality or communities and immediately stop the payments of derivations to States which now lords over the payment.
Rising from its monthly meeting in Warri on Sunday (4-12-16) the group led by the leader, Mr Olueh Eddy stated that, the Itsekiri ethnic Nationality will no longer accept a situation where Peter is robbed to pay Paul.
The group noted that the 13 percent oil derivation is meant for the development of oil bearing communities and wondered why the Federal Government pays same to the States Government who misapply the funds.
Mr Olueh further stated that, States Government now lord over the derivation funds instead of mere caretakers and determined the utilization of the funds that is supposedly meant for oil bearing communities, not for States or Local Government.
Since year 2000, the Delta State Government had been allocated billions of naira as 13 percent derivation but visits to the communities shows little or nothing to justify the huge allocations.
The Federal Government continuous allocation of the derivation funds to States violates the 1999 constitution.
The group therefore urge the Federal Government to do the needful, begin the process to pay directly to oil bearing communities or ethnic Nationality, which will douse the tension in the Niger Delta region, the group stated.
